The CCTS V3.0 draft version is ready for the next step of the Open Development Process, which is the ODP step 6 "Implementation Verification".
Thank you very much to all our contributors and especially to our editors Mark Crawford, Mary Kay Blantz and Tony Coates who did a tremendous good job for finalizing this specification.
Our lead editor Mark incorporated all comments received during the comment validation period. No comment resulted in any substantive change. Additionally, he made a final editors pass through of the document which has resulted in the following:
1) Correction of all editoral corrections submitted by Mary Kay
2) Correction of all editorial typo's, page size, spelling, etc
3) Standardization of the reference to the ODP as agreed during this week with the leadership and editing team
4) Standardization of the capitalization of terms as agreed during this week with the leadership and editing team
5) Alignment of a couple of definitions in the definition of terms section to the definitions in the normative sections.
| Next steps The CC Project Team members should do a simple up/down approval so that the TMG steering committee can decide to move forward to ODP step 6 by the next telephone conference on Thursday, February 7th 2008 |
The new specification is available at the following links:
You'll find the CCTS V3.0 draft version

The UN/CEFACT Techniques and Methodologies Group is pleased to announce that the UN/CEFACT Core Component Technical Specification (CCTS) V3.0 project has completed the public review period under the UN/CEFACT Open Development Process (ODP) and has now transitioned to Implementation Verification. The Implementation Draft may be downloaded from
CCTS V3.0 Draft Specification for Implementation Verification![]()
Under the ODP, all interested parties are encouraged to verify the validity of CCTS V3.0 through actual implementation. This verification review period is the most critical part of the development process, as it permits potential problems and issues to be identified. Taking the results of the review into consideration, the editing group further refines and improves the specification. This step is completed when at least two independent bodies have successfully implemented the specification.
If you are interested in participating in the implementation verification, or have comments on the Implementation Draft, please contact our secretary
Jim Wilson
Abstract of CCTS V3.0
The purpose of the project is to produce the next version of the Core Components Technical Specification (CCTS), taking into account comments received during the implementation verification period of Version 1.95, comments submitted by UN/CEFACT TBG17 and comments submitted by implementers and users of CCTS Version 2.01.
Use of CCTS V3.0
The specification can be employed wherever business information is being defined for interoperability among and between enterprises, governmental agencies, and/or other organizations in an open and worldwide environment. It defines a meta model and rules necessary for describing the structure and contents of conceptual and logical data models and information exchange models.

UN/CEFACT, which is based in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, and has a global remit, has led the development of international standards for electronic transactions for government, commerce and industry. Its experience and ability to bring together world-class experts and match trends in information technology with business requirements, in an open and transparent way, gives UN/CEFACT a unique viewpoint.
The UN/CEFACT Techniques and Methodologies Group is pleased to announce that the UN/CEFACT UML Profile for Core Components (UPCC) V1.0 has completed the implementation verificatino period under the UN/CEFACT Open Development Process (ODP) and is now transist to the Publication period.
The final release can be downloaded from the TMG web site at
*UPCC V1.0 Final Release![]()
Abstract of UPCC V1.0
Accordingly the UPCC specification will be written as a UML and XMI profiles that is implementable by the widest spectrum of UML tool vendors. UPCC has two main tasks in scope:
- Model Validation - To define a standard mechanism to validate the syntax and semantics of UMM models during model development. This provides a means for business analysts to create CCTS V2.01 compliant UML based models.
- Model Interchange - To define a standard serialization format for CCTS models that can be used both for model interchange between modeling tools and also as an intermediate format for the generation of deployment schema such as XMLNDR for CCTS.
These tasks could be achieved through the development of a formal UML profile for CCTS that includes
stereotypes, tagged values and OCL constraints.
Use of UPCC V1.0
The specification can be employed wherever CCTS based business information is being defined by standard UML tools. It enables an easy interchange of CCTS based information models between different UML tools, and allows a validation of the structure and semantics of information models against the CCTS.

Dear members,
please join this telephone conference, because we have to discuss and define the next steps.
Participants: Serm, Sue, Mark, Tony, Gunther
The draft agenda is:
1.) Transistion plan (criterias / next steps)
Need to layout the recommendation how to move from CCTS V2.01 to CCTS V3.0
Basis: CCL D.07B should be used --> Published as a Excel spreadsheet, and by the GEFEG Tool
TBG 17 could be a important partner in this, and TBG 17 has the benefit using the GEFEG Tool
- Contact Mary Kay to discuss how these will be on the agenda for the interim meeting next week.
Partnership is essential. If the transistion plan is not agreed by the TBG, it could be go to an essential problem.
- Request: Official partnership with TBG, ATG, and ICG
- Official request to FMG building a cross group project for defining the transistion plan
- At least one member of each permanent group should be assigned for this cross group project
Define:
- Scope
- Agenda
- Timeline
2.) Criterias for implementation plan
A kind of UN/CEFACT registration document is required, in where all implementation comments could be submitted.
The people should be encourage to register.
Not registered people can't submit comments.
XMLNDR V2.0 Implementation plan could be used as a starting project.
- Requirement is, if the implementation verification is successful or not.
- Remove all non-required parts
- Implement specific CCTS V3.0 parts
- TBG 17 should look to the first draft at their interim meeting, next week
Additionally, there must the CCTS specific criterias for implementation verification defined.
- It has a kind of guideance for implementation.
- How should an implementation planned.
- Criterias for success of implementation
Should be discussed with Mary Kay, if TBG should work on the implementation plan.
3.) Impact Assessment
The impact assessment is critical for TBG.
It should be developed and discussed within the cross group project, during developing the transistion plan.
4.) Other business
If you have further agenda items, please let me know.
Kind regards,
Gunther
